Espresso machine repair in the Peninsula.
San Mateo County and the north valley · courier
Espresso machine and coffee brewer repair along the Peninsula: Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Atherton, Redwood City, San Carlos, Belmont, San Mateo, Burlingame, Millbrae, Los Altos, Mountain View, Half Moon Bay and the coast. Countertop machines are collected by courier and repaired on our San Jose bench, half an hour down 101; plumbed and commercial machines are serviced where they stand.
The Peninsula is the easy part of the map: twenty to thirty miles up 101 from the bench, on one road, with the softest water in Northern California behind most of its taps. Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Redwood City, San Mateo, Burlingame and Millbrae buy Hetch Hetchy water through the SFPUC regional system, and Palo Alto’s 2025 figures run 9 to 35 ppm hardness, under two grains per gallon. Cal Water’s Bear Gulch district, which serves Atherton, Woodside, Portola Valley and parts of Menlo Park, blends in local reservoir water and averaged 62 ppm. That is still soft. What fails on the Peninsula is wear, not scale, and what the Peninsula buys more of than anywhere else is the machine itself: Linea Minis and Slayer Singles in home kitchens, Eversys and Franke in company break rooms, and built-in Miele and Gaggenau behind cabinet doors in Atherton.

Half an hour from the bench
The Peninsula sits on the road the courier drives anyway, so a countertop machine in Palo Alto, Redwood City or San Mateo is collected the same or the next business day and is on the bench in San Jose that afternoon. The courier photographs it at the door and takes a signature on his phone; the diagnostic is $145, courier both ways included, and it is credited in full toward the repair when you approve the estimate. The written estimate and the photo report come by text, usually within two business days, and most repairs are back in 3-5 business days. Half Moon Bay and the coast are a day’s notice, over 92.
For plumbed machines, the technician comes to you, and the on-site diagnostic is the same $145 on the same terms.
University Avenue, Castro Street, downtown Burlingame
The Peninsula’s cafes sit on a string of downtowns: University and California Avenue in Palo Alto, Castro Street in Mountain View, Santa Cruz Avenue in Menlo Park, Broadway in Redwood City, downtown San Mateo and 25th Avenue, Burlingame Avenue, and the Main Street of Half Moon Bay. Behind those counters it is La Marzocco Linea PB and Linea Classic S, Nuova Simonelli Aurelia and Appia, a few Slayer Steam, Synesso S200 at the roasteries, and Mahlkönig and Mazzer grinders. Serviced in place; commercial on-site service from $749 for a one-group machine and $1,049 for two, a single fault estimated after the $145 visit.
On this water the calls are wear calls. A Linea Classic whose group gaskets have been cooked for five years, a pump that lost pressure, a flowmeter fouled by oil, a Slayer needle valve that is sticky with coffee rather than calcium. We carry the group seals, screens and the common valves on the van and most single-fault visits are finished in 60 to 120 minutes.
The campuses and the break rooms
Between Menlo Park, Palo Alto, Mountain View and Redwood City the Peninsula has more company break rooms per mile than anywhere in the country, and most of them run the same four machines: Eversys Cameo and Enigma, Franke A600 and A800, Jura GIGA X8 and X10, and a Bunn or Fetco batch brewer. A machine doing 250 to 400 drinks a day on a campus floor wears its brew unit, its grinder burrs and its milk system on a schedule the water has no say in.
We take these on a maintenance contract, $400 to $2,800 a year depending on the machine count and interval, with a visit every eight to twelve weeks and a priority call-out between visits; a site with three or more machines gets 15-25% off the single-machine rate. Facilities managers get a written report after each visit, with the burr hours and the next service date on it.
Home machines: the Linea Mini belt
The Peninsula buys serious home machines. A courier run here picks up La Marzocco Linea Mini and Micra, Slayer Single Group, Rocket R58 and Appartamento, Profitec Pro 700, ECM Synchronika, Lelit Bianca, and the Breville Oracle Touch and Barista Pro that get the family through the week, plus Jura Z10, E8 and S8 and the occasional Miele CM7. Flat-rate service on the bench is $159 for an entry machine, $219 to $319 for a super-automatic, $329 for a compact Jura, $249 for a Breville prosumer and $429 for an E61 machine, with a $119 add-on for a heat-exchanger or dual-boiler descale when it is actually needed, which here is rarely.
What is actually needed on Palo Alto water is usually a pump, a gasket, a vacuum breaker or a solenoid, and on a Linea Mini the usual call is a group cap gasket or the brew boiler’s heating element after years of being left on 24 hours a day. The one piece of advice we give every Linea Mini owner on the Peninsula: put it on a timer. Six hours a day of heat is a third of the wear.
Why Atherton kitchens need the cabinet opened, not the machine shipped
A built-in Miele CVA or Gaggenau in an Atherton or Hillsborough kitchen is not a countertop machine with a trim kit. It is fixed to rails inside a cabinet and plumbed in, and the standard advice from a general appliance service, pull it, box it, send it to a depot, costs the cabinet and six weeks. We service these in place: the machine comes forward on its rails, the brew unit, grinder, milk system and water path are serviced where it stands, and the cabinet and the stone are covered before the first screw moves. We ask for a photo of the open front and the rating plate before we book, so the right parts make the drive.
The built-in page has the families and what each one needs. The honest line is that a built-in is serviced like a commercial machine, and the price reflects that; the diagnostic is $145 and the rest is written down before any work.
The coast, and where the pages meet
Half Moon Bay, El Granada, Moss Beach and Pacifica are on the courier with a day’s notice and on-site for commercial accounts, and their water is the one Peninsula supply we always test rather than assume. Mountain View, Los Altos and Los Altos Hills are on this page because their water and their road are the Peninsula’s; the rest of Santa Clara County is on the San Jose page. Daly City and South San Francisco ride the San Francisco run.
Local water
profile.
Most Peninsula cities are wholesale customers of the SFPUC and serve the same Hetch Hetchy-dominant blend San Francisco drinks, which the 2025 report puts at 8 to 112 ppm hardness and 62 on average; Palo Alto, which runs its own utility on that water, reported 9 to 35 ppm. Cal Water’s Bear Gulch district adds water from its own reservoir in the hills above Woodside and came in at 62 ppm average in 2025. The coast is different: Half Moon Bay and the Coastside County Water District draw on local wells and creeks as well as SFPUC water, and the hardness moves with the mix. None of these numbers justifies a softener, and two of them, Palo Alto and the rest of the SFPUC cities, sit below the SCA’s brewing range, which is where flat shots and a Jura’s empty-tank complaint come from. We measure at the tap on the first visit, and on the coast we always do.

Frequently asked.
Q-01 How fast can you collect in Palo Alto or San Mateo?
Q-02 How long is my machine gone?
Q-03 What do the $145 and the $250 cover?
Q-04 Is the water on the Peninsula hard?
Q-05 Do you service a built-in Miele or Gaggenau in the cabinet?
Q-06 My Linea Mini has been on 24/7 for three years. Is that a problem?
Typical call from Menlo Park: a three-year-old La Marzocco Linea Mini, left on around the clock, that takes forty minutes to reach brew temperature and then overshoots. Collected by courier on the morning run. On the bench the brew boiler element measures low on one side and the thermostat has been cycling on its last leg; the group cap gasket is hard and the boiler shows almost no scale, which is Hetch Hetchy water doing its job. Element and thermostat replaced, group cap gasket and shower screen renewed, vacuum breaker replaced while the boiler was open, pressure set and twenty shots pulled. Three hours on the bench; the diagnostic already paid came off the written estimate; back by courier on the fourth business day with a timer in the box.
The Peninsula over-buys protection and under-buys maintenance. A Linea Mini on Palo Alto water does not need the $400 filtration kit it was sold with; it needs a timer and a gasket every two years. The same goes for the campus machines: the water is the least of their problems, and the softener in the plant room is usually doing nothing except making the espresso taste of nothing.
Built-in coffee machines in Atherton, Hillsborough and Woodside
Atherton, Hillsborough, Woodside and Portola Valley have more coffee machines inside cabinets than on counters: Miele CVA 7440 and 7845, Gaggenau 400 series, Thermador, Wolf and Bosch. These are serviced in place, with the stone and the cabinet protected before the machine comes forward on its rails. How the visit runs, and what we protect: built-in coffee machine repair.
